My Story: Canmore Therapist

Kate Rive, (she/her)

Canadian Certified Counsellor, MACP

Kate Rive Counsellor Canmore

I believe that healing happens in relationships; I have helped individuals, couples, and families gain greater insight into their emotions and patterns of interaction. Together, we work to solve problems, leading to increased ease, joy, and connection.

My Approach

I am an integrative therapist, offering in-person sessions and virtual counselling across Alberta. I draw upon multiple modalities to tailor the best approach for each client:

  • Family Systems

  • Emotion-Focused Therapy

  • Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

  • Attachment-Based Theories and Modalities

Additionally, I am a trained Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) facilitator. I incorporate present-moment awareness and somatic wisdom into my work to promote healing and resilience. Clients describe me as calm, compassionate, a skilled listener, genuine, present and supportive. I work in partnership with clients to co-construct goals and solutions that foster positive change.

Why Choose Kate Rive Counselling?

I create a safe space to deepen your connection to yourself and to those you care about most.

Non-Judgemental

I have a calm and empathetic approach, honouring that each person's experience is unique. This is a space you can show up as yourself, imperfectly human, and I will meet you where you are at. My practice is open to all - you are welcome here!

Rooted in Science

My practice is rooted in science and grounded in presence. I support you with evidence-based modalities while attuning to each client's unique story, energy and needs in the moment.

Strength-Based

I support you in recognizing and building upon the resources you already have. By highlighting what is working well, rather than simply where you are stuck, I help you navigate challenges with confidence and clarity.

I look forward to supporting you in creating meaningful shifts in your relationships and well-being.

My Experience

I have completed my master’s degree in counselling psychology with additional studies in Systemic Family Therapy. I have a wide range of experience providing therapeutic support to children, adults, couples, and families. This work includes over a decade of contributions promoting positive mental health in the public school system, as well as internships with Carya Family Counselling and the Calgary Family Therapy Centre.

Kate Rive Counselling is located in the stunning Rocky Mountains, which is considered Treaty 7 land and home of Métis Nation of Alberta, Region III. This space and place is the traditional territory of the Îyârhe Nakoda, including the Bearspaw, Chiniki, and Wesley First Nations, as well as the Tsuut’ina First Nation, and the Blackfoot Confederacy, including the Siksika, Piikani, and Kainai First Nations. It is with deep respect and gratitude that I acknowledge the caretakers of this land, both past and present.
