-
How do I get started? You can choose to either start with booking an hour long initial session through the Jane app. Or, if you still have questions, reach out by email to: kate@katerive.com to schedule an initial 15 minute phone consult.
-
How does an initial consult work?Reach out through email: kate@katerive.com; we will schedule a time to have a brief phone chat about your goals for therapy and how I can help.
-
How much does a session cost? All sessions are $200/60 Minute session. If you are looking to have a longer session (90 Minutes) we can make that happen - simply let me know.
-
Will my health insurance cover your services?I am a Canadian Certified Counsellor with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. Your insurance provider may cover some, or all of the session fee. Please check with them prior to booking.
-
Who do you work with?I strive to be inclusive, creating a safe space for all. You are welcome here. I work with youth, families and couples. Check out my services here.
-
How often will we meet?I often meet with clients bi-weekly or weekly for a period of 4-6 months, or longer, depending on your personal circumstances. Meeting frequently helps us to get traction on your goals and for you to experience success. Over-time, sessions may space out as it becomes easier for you to transfer skills to daily life and you require less support.
-
What about confidentiality? What you share with me can not be shared with another party without your prior written consent. This is protected by law. There are three exceptions where I may disclose information without your consent: 1. You provide me with information that suggests imminent harm or threat to yourself or another person. 2. A disclosure is made where a child or vulnerable person is currently being harmed or neglected. 3. If you are involved in the court of law and your records are subpoenaed by court.
-
But we live in a small town, how does that work?Living in a small town, such as Banff or Canmore, and participating in counselling, may mean our paths cross outside of the therapy space. Please know that I will never make it known that I know you in this way. Confidentiality is not only a personal value of mine, it is my ethical responsibility, and I take it very seriously.
-
What if I need to change or cancel an appointment? It is fine to adjust or cancel an appointment as long as you provide at least 24hr notice. I hold a firm cancellation policy and less than 24hrs notice results in the full charge of the service fee. I recognize life happens, please get in touch with me as soon as possible if you need to make a change.
